The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has published its new Plant Health Newsletter on Horizon Scanning. The newsletter gathers together published articles and updates on plant pests that have been identified as potential threats to crops, forests and parks in the European Union. The newsletter is produced in cooperation with the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) and EU Member States.
The newsletter includes as an example the information on following pests:
New pest finding: Erysiphe corylacearum
-Host: Hazelnut
-Damage: Powdery mildew symptoms on leaves
-EU distribution: AT, ES, HU, IT, RO
Quarantine pest: Geosmithia morbida
-Host: Walnuts
-EU distribution: IT
-Damage: Responsible for the thousand canker disease of walnut leaf yellowing and thinning, branch dieback, bark cankers, tree dieback
