Fisheries management: EU and UK reach agreement
17 AUGUST 2023
Three agreements for better fisheries management were reached by the EU-UK Specialised Committee on Fisheries (SCF).
Among the key points of the agreements:
- Mechanism for voluntary transfers of fishing opportunities between the EU and UK.
- Joint guidelines for notifications of management measures, e.g., on timelines for notification, standardised content of notifications. Both the EU and UK have the obligation to notify the other party of all management measures taken in their respective waters that may impact the vessels of the other party.
- Improvements to the management of four shared stocks (lemon sole, witch, turbot and brill), such as the adoption of a recommendation setting out a new framework for setting Total Allowable Catches (TACs) for these four stocks.
