EU-US Tariffs: Member State Ministers meet, EU Trade Commissioner speaks to US counterparts

The Polish Presidency of the EU Council called a virtual meeting of EU Member States’ trade ministers and EU Commissioner for Trade Maroš Šefčovič on 12 February to discuss the US Steel and Aluminum Tariffs.

While the meeting report did not give details of any possible response foreseen by the EU to the US tariffs announced on 10 February, the Polish Presidency noted that the preferred avenue to resolve this was one of cooperation, and that the EU remains united.

Additionally, reports on 12 February are that the EU Commissioner for Trade Maroš Šefčovič also held calls with his US counterparts, US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, and Commerce Secretary , to urge dialogue in response to the tariffs escalation.
