New EAT–Lancet Commission report on healthy, sustainable, and just food systems - role of FRUCOM products

17 OCTOBER 2025

The newly published EAT–Lancet Planetary Health Diet report, developed by the EAT–Lancet Commission, provides evidence-based guidelines for healthy and sustainable diets that stay within planetary boundaries.

The diet emphasizes nutrient-dense plant-based foods, sustainably sourced animal products, and strategies to improve diet quality and environmental outcomes. Overall, the report offers updated guidance for balanced nutrition, disease prevention, and environmentally responsible food systems.

Consumption of tree nuts and peanuts is recommended at about 50 g per day (0–75 g/day), while dried fruits are suggested at 30–40 g per day, equivalent to one serving of fruit within the total 500 g/day fruit target. Fish intake is advised at around 30 g per day, or two 100 g servings per week, focusing on small species and bivalves, which provide essential protein, micronutrients, and omega-3 fatty acids with a lower environmental footprint. Processed vegetables contribute to the recommended 300–500 g per day vegetable intake target, helping maintain year-round nutrient access, reduce waste, and support sustainable diets.
