The INTA Committee of the European Parliament voted on 27 January to endorse the Provisional agreement resulting from interinstitutional negotiations on the Proposal for a regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on applying a generalised scheme of tariff preferences and repealing Regulation (EU) No 978/2012 of the European Parliament and of the Council. Should it be endorsed, it will be voted in by the European Parliament in a future plenary sitting, presently tabled for 27/04/2026.
The provisional agreement would also need to be endorsed by the Council, before being formally adopted.
The legislation will apply from 1 January 2027.
Under the GSP scheme many least developed and developing countries (LDCs) are able to export most goods at zero duty to the EU, including agricultural goods.
