The Council Decision (EU) 2026/1742 of 14 July 2026 on the conclusion of the Interim Agreement on Trade between the European Union and the United Mexican States was published in the Official Journal on 31 July 2026.

The Council through this decision approves the Interim Agreement on Trade between the European Union and the United Mexican States (the ‘ITA’)

The Decision entered into force on 14 July, the date of its adoption.

The ITA will enter into force on the first day of the second month following the date on which the EU and Mexico have notified each other of the completion of their respective internal procedures. Mexico is expected to conclude its internal ratification process after the summer. Following the exchange of these notifications, a two-month period will allow operators to prepare for the application of the new agreement.
