New European Commission led by Ursula von der Leyen takes office for 5 years

On 1st December 2019, the new European Commission took office for 5 years. The new Commission has 27 members, including its president, Ursula von der Leyen.
The new Commission announced the following 6 priorities for the next term:
Some of the key Commissioners will be:
- Phil Hogan, Commissioner for Trade. According to his letter of mission, his priorities should include a level playing field for all (e.g. WTO reform, e-commerce negotiations, trade defence, appointment of an EU Chief Trade Enforcement Officer). P. Hogan will also be in charge of strengthening Europe’s global leadership
- Frans Timmermans, Vice-President of the Commission, in charge of the European Green deal which should be presented in the first 100 days of his mandate.
- Virginijus Sinkevičius, Commissioner for Environment, Oceans and Fisheries. His mission includes Conserving Europe’s natural environment and a sustainable fishing policy.
- Stella Kyriakides, Commissioner for Health and Food Safety.
