Successful FRUCOM General Assembly 2017

21 MARCH 2017

On 9th March, FRUCOM held its 2017 General Assembly in Brussels. It was a well-attended event with more than 50 members and guests present during the open session. FRUCOM organized a discussion on the European Union trade policy, with speakers Mr. Joachim Schuster, member of the International Trade Committee of the European Parliament and Mr. John Clarke, who has been chief EU negotiator for agrifood commodities for several trade agreements.

Finally, the assembly debated on the challenges of brexit and how to guarantee smooth trade and competitiveness in the future, with the insights from Mr. Glenn Vaughan, Chief Executive of the British Chamber of Commerce in Belgium and Mr. Paul Rooke, President of CELCAA. Although it is still very difficult to have a clear idea of the practical issues, and how both the EU and the UK will react, all agreed that there are challenging times to come and we must remain involved at the highest level to make sure the industry's concerns are heard.

Many thanks to all of you who were able to come to Brussels that day and contributed to a successful General Assembly!
