1 JULY 2022
On 20 June, Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2022/939 of 13 June 2022 entering a name in the register of protected designations of origin and protected geographical indications (‘Giresun Tombul Fındığı’ (PDO)) was published in the Official Journal.
This follows Turkey’s application to register the name ‘Giresun Tombul Fındığı’, which was published in the Official Journal of the European Union on 10 February 2022 (https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=uriserv%3AOJ.C_.2022.069.01.0015.01.ENG&toc=OJ%3AC%3A2022%3A069%3ATOC)
According to the application, ’Giresun Tombul Fındığı’ is a hazelnut that belongs to the Corylus avellana L. species and marketed as unshelled or shelled hazelnut: unshelled, shelled raw and shelled roasted. The taste, flavour, and aroma left by the raw and roasted forms of ‘Giresun Tombul Fındığı’ in the mouth are very intensive. The hazelnuts are easy to chew and do not leave a feeling of dryness in the mouth, and the oil of the nuts is felt. Additionally, it does not leave a bitter taste when swallowing.
The name ‘Giresun Tombul Fındığı’ (PDO) is hereby entered in the register as no statement of opposition under Article 51 of Regulation (EU) No 1151/2012 has been received by the Commission.
The Regulation will enter into force on the twentieth day following that of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.
